The Condition of the Muslim Ummah and the Absence of Divine Help:
In today’s world, Muslims are being subjected to endless persecution and oppression by other nations and ethnic groups. It seems as though the laws of human rights apply to everyone—except Muslims. If that were not the case, innocent civilians in Gaza wouldn’t have to lose their lives even on a festive day like Eid. Israel would have been held accountable in the international arena for such injustice. If Muslims truly had any human rights, a single veto by the United States in the UN Security Council wouldn’t be enough to reject a ceasefire proposal in Gaza. Rather, the rest of the nations would have collectively restrained the U.S. If what is happening in Gaza today were to happen to any other religious community in any other part of the world, global outrage would erupt—wars might even begin. But as I said, humanity and human rights are applicable to all—except Muslims.
Today, thousands of organizations around the world are working to change the fate of Muslims. Some are political, some apolitical. Some are unarmed, others are armed. But where are the results? The state of the Muslim world in 2000 and the Muslim world in 2025—what’s the difference? In these 25 years, have there not been countless efforts? So where is Allah’s help?
This question—where is Allah’s help?—is the most important one. There was a time when Muslims held a position of leadership and excellence on the world stage. But gradually, due to their own deeds, they fell from that status. Eventually, the Muslim belt turned into colonies under the British, French, Portuguese, and other European powers. Since then, Muslims have never been able to stand upright again.
This broken-backed Muslim nation will never be able to stand straight unless they receive help from Allah. Until and unless Allah Himself shows mercy and liberates them from oppression, there is no escape. But why would Allah help them? Is this His responsibility? What great deeds have we Muslims done to deserve His personal intervention and rescue?
.
Yes, it is true that Allah has promised many times in the Qur'an that He will help the believers. He has also said that He will hand over leadership, authority, and Khalifah (succession) of the world to the believers. If the believers confront the disbelievers, He will grant them victory. He has declared Himself to be the Wali (guardian) of the believers. As a guardian, it is indeed Allah’s duty to protect, rescue, and enrich the believers.
But the real question is—are we the kind of believers Allah was referring to? Are we those believers to whom He said: “I am your Wali, I will grant you victory, I will give you Khalifah on earth, and Paradise in the Hereafter”?
If you’ve even skimmed through a translation of the Holy Qur'an, you will see that Allah commands believers to fast, pray, perform Hajj, give Zakat—all forms of worship. Alongside that, He also promises victory in this world and salvation in the next. But who are these believers? That is the most crucial question.
Today, the situation is such that two billion Muslims in the world believe they are automatically Muslims and believers just by birth. My father's name is Abdullah, my name is Saifullah—so I must be a believer. But is it really that simple?
In verse 15 of Surah Al-Hujurat, Allah provides a clear definition of a believer:
"The believers are only those who believe in Allah and His Messenger, then doubt not, and strive with their wealth and their lives in the path of Allah. It is they who are the truthful."
Here, belief in Allah and His Messenger refers to the declaration of faith—La ilaha illallah Muhammadur Rasulullah (s.)—meaning: There is no deity or authority but Allah, and Muhammad (s.) is the Messenger of Allah. The first declaration of faith is: “We will not obey any command other than Allah’s.” That is the essence of belief, which Allah included in the definition of a believer.
Then He said, the believers are those who struggle (do jihad) with their lives and wealth to establish Allah’s command on Earth. To reject all worldly authorities and declare loyalty only to Allah’s command—and to fight in the path of Allah to establish this rule—these are the two characteristics that, if someone possesses, Allah acknowledges them as true believers. Those who claim to be believers without these two qualities are, without a doubt, fasiq (liars) in the eyes of Allah.
Today, among the two billion Muslims who call themselves believers, this is the reality we face.
The believer defined by Allah was none other than the Prophet Muhammad (s.) himself. His companions, who followed him, were also true believers. They accepted the Prophet as their leader and fought under his command to establish the true religion. To establish Allah’s rule on Earth, they left their homes, their lands, and spread out across the world. They sacrificed everything—wives, families, farms, and possessions—and rushed to the battlefield. In the end, they sacrificed even their lives. They were true believers.
They were wounded by enemy attacks, evicted from their lands, and exiled from their homelands. They tied stones to their bellies, lived for years in hunger and poverty. Yet they never bowed to the enemies of Islam. Later, when they gained the strength to fight back, they sacrificed their lives and wealth in battle. They ran from one battlefield to another. Fathers were martyred in front of sons, sons in front of fathers. Yet instead of weeping, they thanked Allah. Wives did not wail over the bodies of their martyred husbands—they felt proud to be the wife of a martyr. This was the character of true believers. And it was with such believers that Allah made His promise. According to His promise, He granted them victory in this world. No power in the world could stand against them.
If we too, today, become such believers—if we can unite under one leader, and devote ourselves under that leader’s guidance to the struggle for establishing Allah’s religion—then victory is inevitable for us as well. Help from Allah is guaranteed. Because Allah has promised to help the believers. And Allah never breaks His promise.
Allah has not forgotten—but have we prepared ourselves for that sacrifice?
When we donate a little to the mosque or madrasa and perform some personal rituals, and the mullahs and muftis hand us certificates of guaranteed Paradise, do we really need to do anything more?
Yes—we have been killed from the root. And the ones who have done this are a faction of so-called scholars and clerics from within this very religion.
May Allah grant us all true understanding. Ameen.
