Dhaka, August 1, 2026: Hezbut Tawheed has strongly condemned what it described as an inflammatory campaign carried out under the guise of a religious Waz Mahfil organized by Hefazat-e-Islam in Noakhali. The organization alleged that the gathering was used to spread disinformation, incite hostility, and issue repeated threats against Hezbut Tawheed. It called on the government to take immediate legal action to stop such activities and ensure the safety and security of its members.
The remarks were made at a press conference held on Saturday (August 1) at the auditorium of the Bangladesh Crime Reporters Association (CRAB) in Dhaka. The speakers included S. M. Shamsul Huda, Joint Secretary General of Hezbut Tawheed, and Dr. Mahbub Alam Mahfuz, President of Dhaka Metropolitan Hezbut Tawheed.
Presenting the organization’s written statement, Dr. Mahbub Alam Mahfuz alleged that a Qawmi madrasa-based group was conducting an unlawful and provocative gathering against Hezbut Tawheed at the Noakhali Zila School ground, in violation of the conditions attached to the official permission granted for the Waz Mahfil. According to him, the permission issued by the Superintendent of Police of Noakhali explicitly prohibited speeches targeting any individual or organization, yet the organizers had disregarded both the conditions of approval and the law.
He further claimed that, over the past 10 to 15 days, inflammatory sermons had been delivered in mosques across Noakhali, Feni, and Lakshmipur, while provocative leaflets had been widely distributed with the apparent intention of creating unrest around the ancestral home of the Imam of Hezbut Tawheed in Sonaimuri. He also alleged that threatening processions and intimidation had taken place in front of the organization’s central office in Uttara, Dhaka.
The organization’s leaders stated that although Hezbut Tawheed adheres to Islam and its fundamental creed (Aqidah), it is being deliberately branded as “Kafir” (non-believer) in an attempt to incite public hostility and justify demands for banning the organization. They further claimed that, during its 31-year history, Hezbut Tawheed had been acquitted in more than 500 court cases and had never violated the law. In contrast, they alleged that various mosques and madrasas operated by those demanding the organization’s ban had been linked to incidents of child sexual abuse, torture, and mob violence.
The speakers also recalled the 2016 attack in Sonaimuri, during which, according to the organization, two Hezbut Tawheed members were brutally killed and numerous homes were destroyed following a gathering held under the banner of a Waz Mahfil. They said the recent threats and incitement had once again left their members living in fear and insecurity.
Concluding the press conference, Hezbut Tawheed urged the government to take immediate legal action against those responsible for the alleged incitement and to ensure the protection of the lives and property of its members in order to preserve peace, public order, and communal harmony throughout the country.
