With the slogan “Fasting (Sawm) is a spiritual instrument for social transformation,” a discussion meeting and Iftar gathering was held in Cumilla. The event was organized by the Cumilla district unit of Hezbut Tawheed on Sunday (15 March) at the District Shilpakala Academy in the afternoon.
The discussion meeting was presided over by the President of Cumilla District, Hezbut Tawheed, Md. Omar Faruk. The chief guest of the event was the top leader of Hezbut Tawheed, Imam Hossain Mohammad Salim, who spoke about faith (Iman), creed (Aqidah), and the current condition of the Muslim nation.
Presenting the real picture of oppressed Muslims around the world, he said that there are around 2.4 billion Muslims worldwide and 57 Muslim-majority states, yet Muslims are still being persecuted globally. He stated that women, children, and the elderly are being killed and displaced. From Palestine to Iran, Muslim states are being destroyed one after another. In the neighboring country of Myanmar, millions of Muslims have been forced to flee.
Explaining the reasons behind this situation, he said that the Muslim nation has abandoned the laws of Allah and is instead governing states through man-made laws. Muslims have become divided into various sects, schools of thought, political parties, and geographical states, leading to internal conflict. As a result, the Muslim world today faces humiliation and oppression.
As a way out of this crisis, he emphasized the need to establish the Deen (way of life) of Allah in human life. He stated that Muslims must unite on the declaration of Tawheed—meaning acknowledging no authority other than Allah’s command. Muslims must forget the divisions of sects, schools, and political factions and unite simply as Muslims. He said that Hezbut Tawheed continues to call people toward this unity.
He also urged those present to strive with their lives and wealth to establish the flawless system of life given by Allah in order to bring peace to society.
Special guests at the event included the organization’s General Secretary Nizam Uddin, Joint General Secretary Rufaidah Ponni, Chattogram Divisional President Mahabur Alam, Cumilla Regional President Selim Hossain, Chattogram Regional President Saiful Islam, and Cumilla District General Secretary Manik Mia, among others.
