Rufaidah Panni, Editor of Dainik Deshpotro and Head of the Women’s Wing of Hizbut Tawheed, has described the struggle for securing the rights of working-class people and building a drug-free society as a moral and justice-based “jihad.”
She made these remarks on Friday while speaking at a discussion meeting organized by the anti-smoking voluntary organization Adhunik (Amra Dhumopan Nibaron Kori) at the National Press Club.
Rufaidah Panni said that working-class people have been fighting for ages to secure their fundamental rights. This spirit of struggle is not a new concept. The মহানবী (Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him) fought to establish the dignity of the oppressed and deprived slaves in Mecca. The Holy Qur’an also calls for striving for the liberation of oppressed মানুষ. Therefore, this struggle is not merely economic; it is also driven by moral motivation.
Expressing concern about drug abuse, she stated that it is not an isolated issue but rather part of an organized international syndicate. To protect society from its devastating impact, strict enforcement of laws must be accompanied by widespread social awareness.
The event was chaired by Professor Dr. Hasina Banu, the newly elected President of Adhunik. Other speakers included TIB Chairperson Monsur Ahmed Chowdhury, cardiologist Professor Dr. Mina Islam, Chairman of Kidney Foundation Bangladesh Professor Dr. Harun Ur Rashid, medicine specialist Professor Dr. Kaniz Moula, eye specialist Professor Dr. Harun Ur Rashid, Vice Chancellor of Darussalam University, Somalia, Professor Dr. Asif Mizan, General Secretary of Bangladesh Sangbadik Jote and Joint General Secretary of Hizbut Tawheed SM Shamsul Huda, and President of Hizbut Tawheed Dhaka Division Dr. Mahbub Alam Mahfuz, among others.
