"Upon receiving the news, the army and administration rushed to the scene. However, even in the presence of law enforcement, the terrorists continued their rampage, setting fire to five houses and burning 20 motorcycles. We strongly condemn and denounce the inaction and failure of the authorities." — Speakers at the human chain protest.
Obaidul Haque Badol:
A group of extremist terrorists repeatedly attacked the homes of Hezbut Tawheed members in Pirgacha, Rangpur, after inciting violence through mosque loudspeakers with false claims that 'Hindus had attacked Muslims.' Using this as an excuse, they launched repeated attacks on the homes of Hezbut Tawheed members. The non-political reformist movement faced severe destruction as the assailants vandalized, looted, and set fire to their homes, causing losses worth millions. Five houses and 20 motorcycles were burned, while at least 20 Hezbut Tawheed members sustained injuries in the brutal assault.
In protest, Hezbut Tawheed organized a human chain and demonstration in the capital, condemning the administration's failure to maintain law and order. The protest took place at 4 PM on Monday (February 24) in Karwan Bazar, Dhaka.
Led by Mahbub Alam Mahfuz, President of Hezbut Tawheed's Dhaka Metropolitan unit, the human chain was attended by Vice President Al Amin Sabuj, General Secretary Farid Uddin Rabbani, Dhaka South President Md. Mezba Ul Islam, Narayanganj District President Arif Uddin, Dhaka Divisional Women's Leader Taslima Islam, and Dhaka Metropolitan Women's Leader Ayesha Siddiqua, among others.
The speakers stated that the extremist group had been planning the attack for several days. Despite notifying the local administration, no preventive measures were taken. Taking advantage of this negligence, the attackers launched the first assault at 10 AM, armed with sticks, rods, machetes, and other weapons.
Later, they incited thousands of religiously devout people by spreading false announcements over mosque loudspeakers, claiming that "Hindus have attacked Muslims in Nagdah Chhidam Bazar." This misinformation provoked a furious mob, which then joined the second wave of attacks.
The speakers further alleged that even after the army and administration arrived at the scene, the terrorists continued their rampage. In front of the authorities, they set fire to five houses and burned 20 motorcycles, prompting strong condemnation from the protesters.
At the protest, enraged activists of Hezbut Tawheed chanted slogans such as:
"We want justice—justice, justice!"
"Enforce emergency law—stop mob justice!"
"Homes burn while advisors ride in luxury!"
"The downfall of Bangladesh—advisors' reckless decisions!"
"Crush the black hands of terrorists!"
"We will strip the terrorists of their power!"
"Why was my house set on fire? We demand answers from the administration!"
"Why were we attacked? We demand answers from the authorities!"
Hezbut Tawheed leaders and activists erupted in protest with these chants.
