The Pabna District Hezbut Tawheed organized a press conference and human chain to demand the immediate arrest and prosecution of individuals involved in the brutal attack on its members using firearms and local weapons. The press conference took place on Monday, January 20, at 4:00 PM in the Café Pabna hall room, followed by a human chain in front of the Pabna Press Club on Abdul Hamid Road.

During the press conference, Mahatab Uddin, President of the Pabna District Hezbut Tawheed, delivered a written statement. He detailed that on the night of Sunday, a group of approximately 30-40 armed assailants, led by Munna Pramanik, son of the late Azizul, launched a violent assault on Hezbut Tawheed members in the Char Ghoshpur area of Hemayetpur Union, Sadar Upazila. The perpetrators, armed with firearms, machetes, Chinese axes, iron rods, and other weapons, indiscriminately attacked the members, leaving at least 10 individuals injured. One of the victims remains in critical condition.

Speakers at the event highlighted that this was not an isolated incident. On August 23, 2022, the same extremist group had previously carried out an unprovoked attack on Hezbut Tawheed’s local office in Char Ghoshpur, resulting in the tragic death of Sujon Mondal and injuries to several others. Although legal action was taken against the attackers, the case was allegedly manipulated for political purposes during the tenure of the previous government, allowing the accused to secure bail with ease. Over the past one and a half years, the plaintiff, Selim Sheikh, along with the family of the late Sujon Mondal, has reportedly faced continuous pressure to withdraw the case, including threats of violence and murder.

The speakers further alleged that the accused, enjoying protection from various political entities, exploited the post-August 5 unrest to escalate their actions. They reportedly attacked the residence of Selim Sheikh, committing acts of vandalism and looting. More recently, the same individuals resumed issuing threats. Anticipating further attacks, Hezbut Tawheed leaders filed a General Diary (GD) with the relevant police authorities, yet no action was taken. Consequently, on Sunday night, the assailants carried out yet another violent attack.

Prominent speakers at the press conference included Shamsuzzaman Milon, Regional President of Hezbut Tawheed’s Khulna Division; Selim Sheikh, former President of Pabna District Hezbut Tawheed; and Ramzan Ali, General Secretary of the district unit, among others.

Following the press conference, Hezbut Tawheed leaders and activists staged a human chain in front of the Pabna Press Club, calling for immediate administrative intervention, expedited legal proceedings, and exemplary punishment for the perpetrators. During the demonstration, participants raised slogans demanding justice and an end to impunity for such acts of violence.
