Mekdad & Mehrad Agro Ltd., based in Porkara Village, Sonaimuri, Noakhali, Bangladesh, has suffered extensive damage due to recent catastrophic flooding. The disaster has severely impacted the company’s cattle fattening,Extensive Damage dairy, fish farming, and other critical agricultural activities.
 
The floods caused significant disruptions to the company’s operations. The cattle fattening project, which involves raising over 500 cows annually on three farms, was severely affected. The floods trapped 100 oxen, 50 goats, and 20 sheep, resulting in severe health issues and the need to cull many animals. While healthy cattle were distributed to employees and villagers as part of the relief effort, this incurred substantial costs.
 
In addition, Mekdad & Mehrad Agro Ltd. operates a 30-acre fish farm, converting unused village ponds into a productive operation that yields thousands of tons of fish every 3-4 months. Despite efforts to protect the fish with additional nets, the floods caused the loss of fish worth over 100 million taka from one of their fisheries. Rising water levels affected all fish ponds, leading to extensive damage.

The flooding also inflicted substantial damage on the company’s buildings, disrupted their drinking water supply, and altered the boundaries of their dighies and ponds. Rebuilding and repairing this infrastructure will be a considerable undertaking.
 
Extensive DamageEach year, Mekdad & Mehrad Agro Ltd. organizes a major cow market during Eid-ul-Azha and a week-long trade fair in winter. These events attract millions of visitors and showcase products from their projects. The quality of the farm’s services and cattle has been praised extensively in news broadcasts by both government and private TV channels.
 
The company plays a crucial role in creating employment opportunities and promoting self-reliance within the village, supporting over 300 individuals. The recent disaster has significantly disrupted these efforts and threatens the progress made.
